Week 20 – “We’re Going to Drown”

Luke 8:22-25

There have been many times in life when I thought I was going to drown. Life’s circumstances were hitting hard, and it felt like a tsunami of problems kept knocking me down every time I tried to stand. Wave after wave of troubles seemed to relentlessly intrude upon my life, with no apparent relief.

The disciples were riding high with Jesus as He healed the sick, cast out demons, and spread the gospel to all who would listen. They were following the Master Teacher and the Savior of the world, so what could go wrong?fc

“One day, Jesus says to His disciples, ‘Let’s cross to the other side of the lake’. So they got into a boat and started out.” The disciples confidently accompanied Jesus into the boat, only to be met with a fierce storm that threatened to overtake their boat…and Jesus slept! Have you ever felt like Jesus was sleeping while the storms of life were flipping you in every direction possible? I know I have. But as Jesus awoke, silenced the storm and challenged the panicked disciples, He challenged us and asked, “Where is your faith?” (Luke 88:25; NLT) Where is our trust in God when the bottom drops out, and we feel like we are drowning? Is God still trustworthy? Is He still faithful? Does He still love us? Yes, yes, and yes! He promises that He will never leave us and never forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5b).

I have received many prayer requests this week, as the bottom has dropped out of so many people’s lives. The storms of life may be raging for you now, and there is no minimizing the impact they are having on your life. Please be encouraged that Jesus sees you, loves you, and is with you. I don’t know when He will calm your storm, my friend, but I know He is faithful and true to His promises in His Word.
