Colossians 3:12-14
On my last day in Orange County, CA, after attending church with my son and daughter-in-love, I planned to change clothes before my flight home later that day. I have a little travel tradition: I wear Jesus T-shirts and comfy sweatpants. It’s my way of advertising Jesus and being ready for any divine appointments that might come my way. But as the clock ticked down, I realized I wouldn’t have time to switch into my Jesus T-shirt before the flight. I felt like I was letting the Lord down a bit, but I prayed that others would still see Jesus in me, even without the obvious shirt.
When I reached the security line, a family of four was in front of me, looking a bit flustered as their teenage son struggled to pull up his ticket on his phone. I stood there patiently, smiling inside because it reminded me of the many times my own family held up the line; my son juggling electronics, and TSA scrutinizing all my airplane snacks. Eventually, the TSA agent waved me forward, and I moved on to my gate.
A few minutes later, a woman approached me and thanked me for being patient with her family. I was momentarily puzzled until I realized she was the mom of that flustered teenager. I encouraged her, sharing that I remembered those days of traveling with family and how challenging it could be. I smiled warmly and said, “You’re welcome. God bless you,” as she went back to join her family.
This experience reminded me that while wearing a Jesus T-shirt is a great way to proclaim Him, what truly matters is how we’re clothed on the inside. Colossians 3:12–14 tells us to clothe ourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. I’m not always perfect at wearing those spiritual clothes, but thank God that on that day, I was. And I pray, friends, that we all strive to keep our spiritual garments on every day, so that we proclaim Jesus first with our actions.

We have to “love like Jesus” , in all we do or say. That’s what people see first. I’m still learning that for myself.
Thank you for the reminder that Colossians 3:12 is my spiritual undergarment. I have gotten out of the habit of covering myself with this scripture before starting the day, especially as this season will pull on my time, energy, and nerves.
